Texas

Proud and independent minded, Texas is known as the Lone Star State, having once spent a short tenure as an independent nation before joining the United States. The second largest state besides Alaska, Texans are a fiercely proud people, who enjoy their steaks extra large and their music with country style. Much of the state is large expanses of plains and desert, though several small towns, large cities, and Mega-cities dot the landscape inbetween the vast stretches of emptiness. The heat is often above 100 in the summer, though the low humidity makes it not quite as noticeable.

Long distance to Kalinka, Bowie, and Silo: Tengu Man is still wandering around Texas. *cough*

Long distance to Kalinka, Bowie, and Silo: Tengu Man could go anywhere, but... Kali -did- tell Sai to stay put. ;)

From afar (to Silo, Tengu Man, and Bowie), Kalinka(Kali) told him that because she knows he probably couldn't find his way out of a paper bag. 8)

<This is in reference to an earlier tightbeam convo between us two. :) Sai was headed for Dallas and ended up 250 miles south of Midland. Which is, uh, -not- Dallas. ;)>

The city of Marble Falls is a small one, nestled in the shores of Lake LBJ and Lake Travis. It's grown up since the industry the lakes attracted (mostly tourism) first came to this small city in the Hill Country. And, mind you, that's Hill Country with a capital H-C. But in light of recent times, the tourists and their thrice-accursed jetskis have left their lakehouses and vacation homes. It's very quiet for those on the lake, but for Marble Falls, it's just another cold day in the off-season.

Somewhere by -the- lake (Lake LBJ) is Inuwashi Saigama. He is 'staying put', because Kalinka Cossack told him too. Granted, he's already violated that, but he just couldn't stand another day out 'in the middle of nowhere'. But the important part is that he's back. Sitting on top of someone else's car by the lake, waiting for the promise of a ride.

Because, you see, this -isn't- Dallas. Not by a long shot. Which was where he -was- going...

Kalinka is, at the moment, on the porch of the C Ranch in Midland, using a GPS-unit to determine her -own- coordinates, as well as a radio signal tracer to determine Saigama's coordinates. She waits for the machine to come back with the information...and in the meantime, she's frowning at yet another one of her radio scanners. For some reason, the 'warning' alarm keeps going off - alerting her of danger, though she has no idea why. "Must be broken," she figures.

Meanwhile, back at somewhere other than the Ranch...Bowie is in Midland proper, running one last errand before heading out to the C. At present, he's unaware that Saigama is lost, or even in the state for that matter. He climbs back onto his hoverbike and starts the engine, intending to head back onto the main road.

Kalinka frowns at the alarm, clicking it off and trying the trace relay once more. "< Saigama, are you there? Give me test radio, so I can lock on your signal once more. >"

Silo is meanwhile racing to the C Ranch on his hoverbike. He is, however, still quite a distance away. Don't expect him to turn up for a few rounds...

Saigama starts at the sound in his head. Ooh, what-what-what? Out of nowhere, he remembers something Gemini said to him yesterday. Something about not talking to his girlfriend(s, in Gem's case) because of the danger of being traced. But...there can't be any danger, right? ...nah.

< "Hello-hello. That good enough?" >

Yeah...no danger... surely... A sudden thought races through his head. Damn that paranoia. He really should get something done about that. < "Maybe I could just give you the address..." >

"< Yes, that is perfect, thank you! I have strong trace on you now...as for address, ehhh...maybe that would help, but this machine I have works on coordinates and not street address. I am not too good with American addresses. Just one moment... >"

Kalinka spends a moment inputting data into her datapad. And then --

**RRRRRTTT! RRRRRTTT!** The warning klaxon on the GPS relay once more sounds. **WARNING! DANGER!** With a smirk, Kalinka reaches over and resets it. "Damn thing, why is it doing that."

[Radio: (A) Disney-Masters] Flash Man transmits, "*laughs* By Wily, this Stingray is DAFT..."

[Radio: (A) Disney-Masters] Peon Tengu Man transmits, "Just now figuring this out, huh?"

[Radio: (A) Disney-Masters] Flash Man transmits, "It's hilarious! He wants to date a Stardroid!"

[Radio: (A) Disney-Masters] Peon Tengu Man transmits, "...ha."

[Radio: (A) Disney-Masters] Peon Tengu Man transmits, "...which...-one-, now?"

[Radio: (A) Disney-Masters] Flash Man transmits, "The one he says is 'hot', because 'she smiled' at him..."

[Radio: (A) Disney-Masters] Peon Tengu Man transmits, "Name. Give me a name."

[Radio: (A) Disney-Masters] Flash Man transmits, "I'll give you one when he gives me one. ... (some short time later) ...Duet, I believe."

[Radio: (A) Disney-Masters] Peon Tengu Man transmits, "Oh."

[Radio: (A) Disney-Masters] Search Man transmits, "That could have been any number of Stardroids." "Probably smiled at him because she was considering him as a buffet served with Hush Puppies." "And tartar sauce."

Bowie and his bike swing out onto the main highway linking the Midland mini-metropolis with the Ranch. Following the posted speed limit (no doubt to the irritation of those behind him), the trip is fairly short.

Poor paranoid Tengu Man has no idea. None. Nada. But you better believe that if he knew, he'd freak. So predictable.

But lo. He is miles and miles south of Midland, sitting next to a lake on a 'borrowed' car. < "Okey dokey then... I barely know where I am anyway, so... eheh." > In the meanwhile, he cues up a selection of music. Mm, rock. You can never go wrong with rock, in his mind.

From afar, Bowie(Tex) eyeballs his map. I'm guessing 250 miles south, as the crow (or Tengu) flies?

And eventually, Silo makes his way onto the same highway Bowie just previously entered only minutes before. But unlike his Hunter counterpart, he's going a touch over the speed limit, his hoverbike occasionaly swerving around a very slow car or two...

Long distance to Bowie: Tengu Man chuckles. I'm not real sure, but that sounds about right. All I can say for sure is that it's an hour out of Austin. :)

A few minutes later of tinkering and fiddling with the GPS machine, Kalinka grins triumphantly, sending Saigama a radio. "< Good news! I know where you are...but the bad news is...you are a LONG ways away from here. How in the world did you get so far from the ranch? You have not been hitchhiking again, have you? >"

In the background, the GPS system dutifully traces the radio signal, and...the warning siren goes off again. Kalinka just rolls her eys in exasperation.

** DANGER!! RRRRRRTTT!! **

Bowie is more than likely passed by Silo along the way. There's no danger, and there's no hurry, so he continues to drive at the same speed.

Saigama grins wide upon receiving the radio. Oho. He's been busy, you see. Getting REVENGE for what the people of this state have done to him -- throwing him out of cars, shredding his dignity... oh, yes.

Grinning fiendishly from his perch on top of the car, he answers. < "Oh, cool. *pause* ...yeah. Heheh. No, actually, I didn't... I took the bus and rented a car when I could..." >

Oh yes, he's so funny. So very, very clever and funny, ha ha ha... The car upon which he sits, an average, popular model and make, has been his ride for the past 250 miles or so. It's stolen, and on the side that faces the lake, keyed terribly. Saigama looks behind him at his own vandalism, and actually lets out a giggle. He's so clever, so clever, so funny, and so handsome too... but let's not talk about the ego, yes?

Silo does actually pass Bowie, and as he looks behind him, he recognizes the Hunter, giving a very brief wave that the current boyfriend of Kalinka may or may not see. After that though, the pilot focuses on the road ahead, now quickly gaining on the C Ranch's position...

Kalinka nods as she reaches over and turns off the alarm on the GPS again. As she does so, she smiles when she sees Bowie and Silo coming down the long main dirt drive to the ranch. "< Good for you, >" she transmits to Saigama. "< Now I have friends with me, we are coming to get you. There is no need for you to be lost in Texas. I will get you plane ticket to wherever you need to go, okay? >"

<bit of irrelevant radio chatter cut>

Bowie pulls in shortly after Silo, killing the engine and removing his helmet. If he's surprised that Silo is here, he's taking care not to show it. "Howdy."

Kalinka grins happily, sitting on the porch with all of the GPS equipment spread out around her. "Hi handsome!" she calls out. "We have situation here...come on over and I will explain."

[Radio: (A) Disney-Masters] Peon Tengu Man transmits, "Don't."

[Radio: (A) Disney-Masters] Peon Tengu Man transmits, "Just don't."

Silo takes off his helmet as well, placing it on his bike and beginning to walk over in Kali's direction. As Bowie pulls in and speaks, he breifly turns around, nodding to the Hunter, before looking over at Kalinka. He's about to say hello... But decides against it, just slowing down and taking his time to get to the porch.

Kalinka gestures Silo over. "Hi! You too...though you know more about this, I have not told Bowie yet what is going on."

(Yes, good for me...ha ha ha...)o. At the mention of her friends, however, Sai flinches and jumps. He wasn't expecting that. < "Oh, okay... waitwait, plane tickets?" > He thinks about that for a moment.

Plane tickets.

Right.

< "... ... HA HA HA HA HA! You're kidding, right?" >

Bowie walks over to Kali, looking quizzically at the equipment spread out on the porch, then at her. "Whut's up, sunshine?" He doesn't ignore Silo so much as not directly address him, Kali's 'situation' having grabbed his attention.

Silo just waves to Kali, walking up to the porch and looking at the equipment. He knows what's going on, so he doesn't ask any questions, merely waits for Kalinka to explain the situation to Bowie...

As Saigama radioes again, the GPS early-alert warning signal goes off once more -- detecting a hostile frequency. ** WARNING!! DANGER!! ** Kalinka shakes her head, smacking the reset button with an irritated <BAP> before answering the radio. "< No, I am not kidding, I do not want you lost again. I will pay for your safe transportation home. Anywhere you wish to go. Money is no object. I just want for you to be safe. >"

Having said that, Kalinka turns back to Bowie and Silo. "Okay. Here is the situation. You remember my friend Saigama, the kid who was here a few days ago? Well...he is lost. He does not know where he is, but I have managed to trace his signal. The GPS is...not working right, the alarm keeps going off. But I think the coordinates are the right ones."

Bowie nods, taking Kali's word without question. Like he'd know how to fix a broken GPS anyway. "So whare is he?" he asks with a note of concern.

[Radio: (A) Disney-Masters] Alpha XO Elec Man transmits, "I wonder if Ring Man got those Gizmo Glider plushies done..."

Silo just remains silent, the one question on his mind asked by Bowie. He does, however, breifly raise an eyebrow at that annoying alarm...

Hostile? Pssssh.

Although Tengu is a little crazy. But you get used to that after a while, sez his brothers.

< "...wow, really? Thanks, it's just... plane tickets?!" > How utterly -absurd-! Plane tickets?! But he can FLY! ...wait just a second... oh damn, that's right. < "I promise... I'm safe, you don't need to worry so much..." > Safe from outside world: yes. Safe from himself: no.

"According to this, translating coordinates onto map, he is located in...town of Marble Falls," Kalinka mentions. "Are you familiar with that place?" she asks Bowie -- just as the GPS early-warning siren goes off again. Kalinka quickly resets it and answers Saigama. "< Being lost is dangerous. There are WEIRD people out there. You might feel free, but...it is dangerous. I just want to know for sure that you will be safe, Sai.>"

Bowie thinks for a moment, his brow lightly furrowing. "Thank it's just outside a Austin. That's a fair piece frum here." He eyes the GPS tracker for a moment. "Any way ya can mute that thang?"

Silo just remains silent, just eyeing that early-warning siren... Before speaking. "What's that siren for, anyway?" Silo doesn't really know too much about GPS systems, so it's a fair question...

Kalinka bobs her head. "You mean from him hearing us? He cannot hear us unless we transmit. It is old device. As far as siren goes...no, the stupid thing goes off EVERY time he radios. Now, if this thing was working like it SHOULD, it would go off to warn of incoming danger. You see this equipment? It is meant to go in old ride armor. It is installed, and then when ride armor goes into battle, let's say, the GPS would track locations of known hostiles, and the warning siren would go off to let ride armor pilot know when a hostile was detected."

< "Okay, okay..." > He has no idea, or else he would shut up. And fast, too. But, thankfully... Tengu leeeeeeans back on the roof of his stolen car, relaxing for a moment...

*** RRRTTT!! WARNING!! ***

"Ah meant turnin off that siren," Bowie clarifies. He nods at her explanation at from where the equipment was salvaged. "Ah see. Sai might be usin an old frequency, then. So, if we shortcut through the teleport station in Midland t'Austin, we can shave off some time collectin yer friend." She doesn't even need to ask.

Silo just raises an eyebrow at Kali's explanation of what the alarm is, but doesn't say a word...

Kalinka nods. "Okay...and then I guess once we get close to coordinates, we can begin looking on foot, I guess, because this GPS is accurate to the mile or so, on long distances. Does that sound good? Let me tell him we are on our way." She peers critically at the GPS-box as she radios Saigama. "< We are on our way right now! >"

Brace yourselves, here comes the warning bell again. < "Okay. I'm not going anywhere... Like I said, though, I'm by a lake, if that helps..." >

Now all he has to do is wait. Good thing he downloaded that music, else he'd probably go nuts waiting here. He and Dynamo Man have that much in common -- they're metalheads to the bone. Oper-rate, annhil-late, and everything is alright. o/`

Kalinka is anticipating the warning siren this time around. She shakes her head in annoyance as she quickly resets the machine. "Okay, he says he is waiting near a lake, so...that narrows it down some."

Bowie nods. "Then let's get goin..." A pause. "Didja bring yer helmet, or do ya need t'borrow mine again?" He then also turns to Silo, smiling pleasently. "Yer welcome t'join in, a course."

"That's why I'm here, Bowie." Silo jumps off the porch, waiting for the others to follow, if not in the exact same way. His mind also keeps going back to what Kalinka said about the alarm, not knowing why the fact keeps on annoying him... But he eventually pushes the matter aside.

"Yes, um, Silo offered to come and help," Kalinka tells Bowie a bit awkwardly, blushing faintly. "Actually...I have my helmet in the stable. Uh, I was wearing it when trying to saddle-break Missy." Blushing some more, she runs to go get it.

Bowie, obviously, didn't know this. "Oh." That's all he says about the matter, and lets it drop.

Silo just glances at Bowie for a few seconds, before turning his attention to the stable, waiting for Kalinka to go and retrieve her helmet.

Kalinka runs back out, her helmet strapped on. "Okay! Let's go!"

Tengu Man meanwhile just waits. Waits. Oper-rate, annhil-late, whatcha got you got too late, 'cause everybody's gone... o/`

Bowie in the meantime gathers up Kalinka's GPS equipment in what he hopes is the correct way (ie not breaking it) and puts it in his bike's saddlebag. They won't need it again until they reach Marble Falls. Presuming that she'll ride with him, he sits down and gets ready to hed out.

Kalinka hops on the back of Bowie's bike, peering over at Silo as she situates herself.

As the group nears the spot where Saigama is stranded, the lights begin to blink furiously on the GPS, much like a Geiger counter would fly right off the scale at a radioactive dump. This, of course, isn't noticed because the GPS is (at the moment) inside of a bag.

However, Inuwashi Saigama merely sits peacefully on top of 'his' car, enjoying the light breeze and shady spot he's picked out by Lake Lyndon B. Johnson. How fortunate that said spot is visible from the road. So he can be spotted, day-glo hair and all, sitting with his legs crossed on the roof of a somewhat beat-up hovercar. Which, as was mentioned earlier, is keyed all down the side not visible. Well, it was fun when he did it...

Bowie has been following the road signs for the town of Marble Falls, intending to pull off at a convenient spot to unpack the GPS again. Unremarkably, he's been fairly quiet during the trip, but he's not exactly known for small talk. The big sign on the interstate advertising the lake makes finding it that much easier.

Kalinka is holding onto Bowie snugly, enjoying the ride. "This is nice place, maybe someday we can have picnic here," she remarks, trying to be heard over the wind.

Silo just follows right behind Bowie, likewise been quiet... Well, mainly since he has no one to talk to. He does seem to be muttering under his breath though, and thanks to the wind it's practically impossible for anyone else to hear what those mutterings may be about...

Bowie cuts his speed as they approach the immediate vicinity of the lake, and pulls into the public park. It's as good a place as any to start their hunt for Saigama. "Ya want t'get out yer GPS again?" he asks Kali. "It's in the bag t'yer left."

Kalinka nods, reaching for the bag and peeking inside. "WOW," she remarks with surprise, her eyes widening.

[Radio: (F) Public] Rocket Rodent transmits, "Why, oh why must robots be programmed with less then average human intelligence?"

[Radio: (F) Public] Tengu Man transmits, "Says who?"

Silo doesn't notice Kalinka's reaction from looking at the GPS, just continues to mutter under his breath, (even though he doesn't really have one). Something seems a bit different about him, but as to what that could be, only he knows...

[Radio: (F) Public] Bass transmits, "To keep them from taking over the world, of course."

Bowie doesn't glance behind him, but he does notice the tone of her voice. "Somethang wrong?"

He's innocent. Really. INNOCENT. Would -I- lie to -you-?

Saigama still sits, waiting. He has no idea, still, but he's on the lookout...

"I am not sure," Kalinka admits. "Can we stop? This thing is acting really crazy...ALL of the warning lights are on."

Silo just continues to follow Bowie and his hoverbike, now finally glancing back to the pair in front of him, but still not noticing anything going on up ahead...

<some radio spam cut>

Bowie nods, pulling over to the side and bringing the bike to a stop. He leaves the engine idling, however. "It still thanks Saigama's a bogey?"

Kalinka nods, slowly pulling the GPS out of the bag. Sure enough, ALL of the lights are on. The siren isn't going off because the radio is silent; however, every single warning light attached to a sensor is ON and flashing. "Oh yes," Kalinka says solemnly. "I...do not know why, but this thing is convinced he IS. Anyhow...he is within a half-mile of us, according to this. We should be able to see him soon."

Hey, WAIT JUST A SECOND... what on EARTH is -that-...?!

Sai-Tengu's eyes widen as he feels a definite 'ping'. That was not expected. Not at ALL.

He immediately ponders something very brash. He could turn off his locator. It would cut off any sort of lock immediately, wouldn't it? ...but... Despite whatever Bass or Enker may think, Tengu knows what would happen. That option is simply not open for him. They would ask. And he would have to explain.

No, that simply won't work... The idea slowly fades. But he is nervous...

Silo just pulls his bike to the side, pulling in beside Bowie's. "Why the hold up," he asks curiously... And then he notices the GPS in Kalinka's hands, and just raises an eyebrow once more while staring at it.

Bowie shrugs in answer to Silo's unspoken question. "Don't know what old frequency Sai's usin, but this GPS doesn't like it." It's not unheard of. After all, frequencies are changed and reused all the time.

"It is something about HIM it is not liking, not his frequency per se," Kalinka explains, as she peers in the direction of the nearby lake. "You see...there are certain...what do you call them, modulations? In frequencies. Mavericks scramble the modulations in strange, unique way. And androids have natural variance in modulation that makes it strange -- not to our ears, but to the sensors of this GPS. Anyhow -- enough lecture. There is that lake...maybe we could walk over and take a look?"

<*ping!*>

"Sure, I don't see why not Kali." Silo shuts down the engine to his hoverbike, and slowly jumps off the bike, waiting to see what the others will do...

Bowie cuts the engine, letting the bike settle, and takes off his helmet. "Uh, Kali?" he asks, half-turning to face her, "isn't Saigama a human?"

Kalinka begins to look uneasy. She feels her stomach beginning to turn in knots. "...I did think he was," she admits.

Kalinka sighs, and removes her helmet, glancing over at Silo briefly.

<*pong!*>

"...chi...ku...SHO!" grumbles Sai-Tengu. That gets annoying FAST. And it makes him feel...odd. Probably a side-effect of his corrupted programming, but ah, that's another story. Unaware of what conspires only a short distance away, he sits, head in his hands, still on top of that car. This gets worse and worse and worse...

As Bowie's bike settles, Silo takes off his helmet, his face looking slightly uneasy. "...Let's just go find him. Maybe he knows why all of this is happening."

Bowie's brow furrows as their assumptions of Sai being a normal (if troubled) teenage boy are brought into question. "Right," he agrees. "Lead the way, sunshine."

Kalinka nods, and begins heading toward the lake, walking a little bit ahead of Silo and Bowie. As she nears the lake area, she spots the car, and Saigama seated on top of it. "...There he is!!" she cries.

[Radio: (F) Public] Guts Man transmits, "God bless the Queen, everyone one of us!"

[Radio: (F) Public] Tengu Man transmits, "What queen?"

[Radio: (F) Public] Guts Man transmits, "The Queen of Britain!"

(<Oh look, they're here already. Oh ho ho, how DELIGHTFUL... Mm, Saigama... I bet they KNOW WHO YOU ARE.>)o. The Akuma toys with the 'weaker' side of Tengu's personality, not knowing for sure if there are doubts in their minds or not. Now is the worst possible time, but that makes him even happier.

Saigama cringes at the thought. (No, no, they CAN'T. NOT YET.)o. He starts once again as Kali yells out, looking up and in their direction. "Oh! HEY!" Quietly cursing his own act of vandalism, he slips off of the car's roof and ambles over.

Silo just follows Kalinka, his look now that of suspicion. At least hopefully his questions will be answered soon enough. Also, his helmet rests in his arm pit, his left arm over the top and pushing it into his side to keep it secure. And while he was focusing on Kalinka up ahead, his eyes are now focused squarely on Saigama...

As they walk, Bowie weighs out several possibilites in his mind, not the least of which is that Saigama is a leftover creation of DeVry's, a companion to "Suzie". However, that doesn't seem to fit, given his other meetings with the boy. Further musings are interrupted by finally fiding Sai. He musters a small but friendly smile. "Thare ya are," he calls. "How the heck didja end up here?"

Kalinka impulsively runs over and gives Saigama a hug -- despite the WAY whacked-out GPS activity, she's been very concerned for the welfare of her lost friend, and she's just glad to see he's okay. Letting him go, she looks him over critically. "You are okay...you are not dehydrated? Do you think you might need a hospital?"

"Oh, hey guys," he responds to Bowie. "One really bad wrong turn," he offers, as if that explains -everything. Saigama laughs as he's hugged, returning it in kind. He's happy to see Kalinka as well. Oooh, scandalous. "Ha ha, yeah, I'm fine!" he says, grinning. "Jeez, Kali, I haven't been sittin' out here in the car for two days, ya know?" Gosh!! "I'm fine, really... How in the -world- did you find me, anyway?"

Silo merely waves to Saigama, and only for a moment. No matter who the boy really is, they've both had a talk, and now Silo truly knows that Sai really doesn't like him. He just keeps on walking after Kalinka, keeping silent for the most part...

Bowie opts to let Kalinka do the explaining, and so simply walks up to join them. His own suspicions can be settled later.

Kalinka arches a thin brow, then takes the GPS out of the sack and shows it to Saigama. The GPS is flashing frantically at this point. "Ever seen one of these before?" she asks him. "Usually, no one actually sees them, because they are installed inside of ride armor. But they are great trackers. They track by radio modulation. ... You know, I must have gotten a bad one, because this one does not like you one bit."

Saigama looks at the GPS with a critical eye. "Oh, really? It doesn't like me? Weird..." He frowns, as if trying to think of a good reason why it wouldn't like him. Then, he just chuckles. "Well, I dunno why it wouldn't... I guess some people and things just don't get along." Nervous laugh goes here as he glances at Silo. "I mean, my computer -hates- me..."

Kalinka says, "Well, not that kind of dislike. I do mean...it thinks you are 'hostile'."

Bowie seems skeptical of Sai's pseudo-explanation, but chooses to say nothing. At least not yet.

Silo merely stands behind Kalinka, watching Saigama with a slight glare, waiting to see if he ad the others can get some answers...
