Star Belly Geek's Roleplaying PagesArs MagicaArs Magica, a roleplaying game by Atlas Games, has been around for about over a decade now. Its most exciting features are its magic system (widely considered one of the best ever created for a roleplaying game) and its setting. The magic system in Ars Magica relies on a character's scores in a variety of magical Arts to determine the general maximum power level of spells cast by that character. It allows for known spells, less powerful, spur-of-the-moment spells, enormous varieties of magical items, and really intriguing non-adventure activity. Ars Magica is set in medieval Europe (officially 1220AD), but with the added element that many of the legends common to the period are literally true. There are reclusive wizards capable of moving mountains, God and Satan struggle for men's souls, faeries and other mystical creatures lurk on the fringes of society, and generally life is more exciting and terrifying for the residents of Europe. The setting allows players to use as much or as little actual historical source material for their games as they desire, but the potential level of detail is enormous. Robbie has a small compilation of resources he's not found in other places. Robbie was a member of a troupe running a saga set near Salzburg at the covenant Domus Argenteus. Most of the members of that troupe also participated in the Turmaris and Windsong sagas. |
