UT Tower
My wife and I both graduated from the University of Texas. Back around
Fall '95 I was trying to think of something cool to build out of LEGO and
my wife suggested the UT Tower. That winter I built the tower; now I just
need to build the rest of the building. In the meantime, here are some
pics of what I've got so far. As you can see from the "real"
pictures I've got aways to go.

I have no idea how many pieces I've used and don't plan to count them anytime
soon. Take a close look at the windows and you'll note they're separated
vertically by two plates, not a full brick. Definitely a hassle, but closer
to the real thing. I was afraid a solid white tower would look a little
bland so I mixed in some grey accents and inset the middle of each wall a full
brick rather than mess with the slight indentation on the original.
Many thanks to Huw Millington
for most of the yellow quarter-rounds. I traded him
a bunch of BURPs for them. If anyone has an extra 2x2 clock tile or two
they can part with let me know.
Three of the ones I have now are from 4554 Metrostations and I really didn't
plan to keep all three sets. The real tower houses a carillon but I have
absolutely no idea what the bells look like or how they're mounted so I
just stuck a couple yellow goblets and 2x2 cones in mine.
As you can see in the backlit photo, all the windows are transparent 1xn
bricks (except the top row which uses two 1x1 plates). No way I can keep
that up for the rest of the building unless someone has hundreds of clear
bricks they'd like to sell me cheap. Yeah, didn't think so. I haven't decided
yet whether to use grey or black bricks or just leave them out entirely.
I'm hoping to start work on the next phase next winter and will figure
that (and many other questions) out then.
