Texas Expressions Used in the Book
and Their Meanings

whoa doggies! -- just another way of saying "mercy me!", "jumping
jeehozephat!"

might could be -- means "could be" - Texans frequently add the "might" to add a bit more possibility to the possibility

mosey -- means to move in an easy, leisurely manner - like you do
when your mama is trying to get you to go fast

confounded -- confusing or mixed up - the way you feel after you spin
yourself in a circle for a few minutes

cotton boll -- the pod of the cotton plant - that little piece of cotton that
comes in the top of a medicine bottle and on the tail end
of jackrabbits

tuckered out -- so tired that you can't even walk across the street to buy
an ice cream cone from the ice cream truck

plum crazy -- totally, completely, beyond help crazy - the way your dog
feels when you tease him with food and then don't give him any
