Adventure Training Unit (ATU)

The Adventure Training Unit at Channelview High School is an elite unit of motivated and dedicated cadets, who desire to excel beyond the normal scope of a JROTC cadet's requirements and expectations. These cadets excel in academics as well as in their JROTC tasks and physical fitness. They are seeking adventure and higher-level training.

The ATU does not compete against other ATU-like teams. Their reward is the ATU tab, as well as confidence built as a result of their training and accomplishment. To be a part of the ATU a cadet must be passing all classes, be considered by leaders and coaches within the ATU to be top 10% of the Falcon Battalion, and to be actively seeking the ATU tab. If a cadet meets the afore-mentioned criteria, he or she may wear the ATU cord (gold and black).

The criteria for the ATU tab follows:
          1. One day-time and one night-time orienteering course completed successfully;
          2. Shoot 175 out of 300 on a 10 meter air rifle range using AR-5/10 targets;
          3. March 20 kilometers on a prescribed course in BDUs with 35lb ruck sack;
          4. Successfully perform drown-proofing measures in 7' or deeper water;
          5. Successfully rappel off a 30' or higher tower.
