The Houston Institute for Culture - Houston is a cultural crossroads, and no Web site that I've seen does a finer job in exploring the cultural pathways and folkways of southeast Texas than the Houston Institute for Culture.  Like the city it's named after, the site is a sprawling, stimulating, treasure-packed, delightful mess, and always under construction.  I highly recommend their email newsletter.  To receive the newsletter, send a message to info@houstonculture.org and ask to be added to the list.  Also, be sure to check out their exhibit on photographer Bill Steber.

167 Years of Historic Houston - This is a mind-numbingly comprehensive educational and information archive of the history of the city of Houston.  Grab a cup of coffee, take your phone off the hook, and submerge yourself.

American Memory from the Library of Congress - a collection of collections, with some stunning original source materials.

Rockin' Country Style - Your jaw will drop when you begin to comprehend the amount of effort that it must have taken to put together this discography of country, rock-n-roll, and related records.  The site is truly a labor of love, and is the sort of self-directed scholarship that the Web has enabled.

Slipcue.com - "All substance, no style!"  DJ Joe SixPack has put together a Web site that is a mixture of e-zine and music guide.  Be sure to click on "hick music" for his resources on country, alt.country, and related.

Halls of Fame - Check out the Blues, Country, Gospel, Jazz, Rock, and Rockabilly halls of fame.  The International Bluegrass Music Association has a "Hall of Honor."
